What are RoRo ferries?

RoRo-ferries (Roll on Roll off ferries) are special cargo ships that allow vehicles such as trucks, cars or trailers to be driven directly onto the ship and rolled off again at the port of destination.

These ships are particularly efficient for the transportation of rolling cargo, as no cranes or hoists are required. Drivers can either ship their entire truck including trailer or just the trailer or the freight without driving along.

This type of ferry is often used for international freight transport, as it saves time and simplifies the logistics process. Combined RoRo passenger ferries, which transport passengers as well as vehicles, are also in use.
